Shirley Ilene Harmon


Shirley HarmonShirley Ilene Harmon, former Cushing resident now of Tulsa, passed away Sunday, December 7, 2014, at her home, at the age of 66 years.

The daughter of the late Odean S. Davis and Maggie Jane Cox Davis, Shirley was born on January 23, 1948 in Liberty Hill, Texas. At birth she weighed 2 1/3 pounds and her first three weeks of life were spent in an incubator beside a heater. All of her life, her health was a challenge to her, but she always had a positive outlook on life and gave God credit for everything he did for her.

She was married to Norman Harmon on February 1, 1965 in Austin, Texas. The couple came to Cushing in 1969, living here for several years prior to moving to Tulsa.

She enjoyed sewing, quilting, working on genealogy and making sure all of her family had an up to date photo album. She was a very loving and caring Grandmother, whom they referred to as “Dear Abby”, only in this case it was “Dear Shirley”.

Surviving include her husband Norman Harmon of the home; her children, Terrie Lynn Brodie and her husband John, Betsy K. James, Carl D. Harmon, Brenda K. Harrison and Larry O. Harmon and his wife Shelynda; 11 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren and expecting one more and other relatives and friends.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one sister Judy D. Sumpter and an aunt, Bertha Barrow, who helped raise her.

Graveside services will be Thursday, December 11, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. in the Fairlawn Cemetery with Pastor James Coffelt, pastor of the First Freewill Baptist Church officiating.
