LHHS baseball team raises $13,500

The Panther baseball team held a fundraiser on Saturday at Reunion Ranch, raising $13,500 and attracting a crowd of more than 200.

Head Baseball Coach Mike Kristan credited a number of parents with putting the event together, including Lora Cheney, Donn Thompson, Lana Schmidt, Jennifer and Charles Carpenter, Letitia and Matt Ray, Dawn and Bryan Hudson, Jennifer Sykora, Elizabeth and Bryan Alexander, Audra and Marcus Flake and Linda Hilbrich.

The $13,500 the team raised came from table sponsors, which included The Liberty Hill Independent, among others, and a bake sale.

“I am not sure who did all the baking, but it all was delicious,” Kristan said.

Kristan said the $13,500 is more than they’ve ever raised with a fundraising event in the past. According to Kristan, the money will go to baseball-specific gear and training devices.

In addition to the parents and sponsors, Kristan credited Head Football Coach and Athletic Director Jeff Walker for his support of the event.

“With the great support from Coach Walker and our school administration, we had the opportunity to do this event, so we went for it,” Kristan said. “I am not sure how much we raised, but it is more than we have had in the past, which allows us to buy travel bags, warm-up jackets, mental thinking books, and certain training devices for hitters, pitchers, and on defense.”
