Lady Panthers track clinches district title
By Lauren Jette
BURNET — The Lady Panthers track team clinched the district championship on April 14, while the boys also qualified several athletes for the area round at the district meet at Burnet High School.
Individuals earning district titles included Alex Albarran in the boys mile run; Rachel Gallander in the girls 400m dash; Mckynzie King in the mile run; Danielle Rimann in the two-mile run; Bethany McLeod in the 100m hurdles; Ashlee Perkkio in the high jump and Kristin Cox in the discus. The girls 4x200m and 4x400m relay teams also won district champion honors.
“The girls did a great job. They always step up and do what the team needs them to do, but their performances went above and beyond,” said girls head coach Gretchen Peterson.
“They really pushed themselves and we are so very proud of them. As far as the area meet, it’s a new day. They will need to carry over the confidence gained from the district meet, but it’s going to be about stepping up on that day. We will be competing against very strong athletes, and it will be challenging, but as always, we know our girls will rise to the occasion and take the challenges head on.”
The top four finishers in each event advance on to the area meet at Liberty Hill today, April 21.
