Donald Ray Poling, Sr.


Donald Ray Poling Sr., resident of Liberty Hill, TX, passed away at the Georgetown Hospital on Friday, Feb. 22, 2019.

He was born in Belington, WV on Jan. 19, 1933 to Wyatt F. and Mallie A. Poling.

He retired from the U.S. Army having served 26 years as a military policeman, including a tour of duty in Vietnam where he earned the Bronze Star for meritorious service. After retiring at the rank of Sergeant First Class, he worked as a carpenter and was an avid collector of rare coins, books, and glassware, among other things.

He was preceded in death by his wife, JoAnn S. (Brumm) Poling, two brothers, Richard and Robert Poling and two sisters, Velma Keenan and Lois Frederick.

He is survived by two sisters, Alda R. Hammack and Evelyn Davis, four children, Donald R. Poling Jr., Kristine A. Rhoads, Karen A. Konecci, Dale R. Poling Sr., nine grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren with two more on the way.

Graveside services were held at 10AM, Thursday, February 28, 2019, at Liberty Hill Cemetery in Liberty Hill, Texas under the direction of The Gabriels Funeral Chapel and Crematory.
