Lady Panthers win twice in Salado tourney
Liberty Hill girls soccer team was shutout by Wimberley Tuesday night, 2-0.
“We have taken many steps forward and last night against Wimberley was a testament to that,” said head coach Darren Bauer. “The girls worked very hard and had their chances to win. The difference in the game was Wimberley finished their chances and we did not.”
The Lady Panther soccer team rebounded from an opening loss at a tournament in Salado with two wins heading into district play next week.
In their first game, the Lady Panthers were shutout by Robinson 3-0. Liberty Hill came back the next day and posted a 1-0 win over Lampasas. Gaby Garcia scored the lone goal for the Lady Panthers.
Against Gatesville, Liberty Hill won 4-2.
Averi Stratton scored off the assist from Kaitlyn Peterson. Payton Swieczkowski scored another goal for the Lady Panthers. Miriam Powell found the back of the net off an assist from Garcia and Emma Hofmann rounded out the scoring attack with a goal.
“We had a rough start on Thursday against Robinson, but they bounced back and came together for much better performances on Friday and Saturday,” Bauer said of the Lady Panthers’ performance at the tournament. “We still had our struggles at times, but the girls are starting to come together and understand how they need to play and the mentality they must have to compete at the level we are trying to achieve.”
The Lady Panthers will open district play at Florence Tuesday. Varsity will take the field at 5:30 p.m. Liberty Hill is 4-4 on the season.
