Track teams compete at Vista Ridge in last meet before district
By Lance Catchings
All four Liberty Hill track teams competed at the Vista Ridge Ranger Relays March 28. The Vista Ridge meet was the final track meet before the Panthers travel to Taylor April 3-4 for the 27-4A district track meet. Liberty Hill was the only 4A team in attendance and managed a strong showing at the Ranger Relays, where the varsity girls took third and the varsity boys took sixth.
The varsity girls’ team finished in third place with a team total of 99 points while the junior varsity girls took fifth with 56 points. The varsity boys team finished sixth at the Ranger Relays with a team total of 70 points and the junior varsity finished eighth with 22.5 points.
Head Girls’ Coach Gretchen Peterson said her team’s performance was inspiring and they felt good headed into the district meet.
“It was a big meet with us being the only 4A school there,” Peterson said. “Our kids did a great job of competing and represented our school extremely well. We used this meet as a trial run for district, and I thought it was a great way work out the nerves and a few kinks. It was also our last chance to play with the relay orders.”
Peterson, her team and coaching staff are looking forward to a strong showing at the district meet.
“We are working towards a district championship on both levels, and the key to that is scoring points in each race or event,” she said. “We may not get first, but if all three of our girls place in the top six, then we have a real chance. Our relays are looking good, as well. Ultimately, we want our kids to go out, compete and have confidence in the work they have done themselves and one another.”
