She was born in Lubbock, Texas on June 22, 1963 to parents Gary and Mary (Todd) Houchin. Tamera attended Texas Tech University and West Texas State University where she received her BSN of Nursing. She married David Nix on September 10, 1994 in Salado, Texas.
She was a registered nurse for Columbia West in El Paso, Texas where she retired in 1999.
Tamera was an excellent nurse who enjoyed providing comfort to her patients with a smile. She was also a well-rounded athlete who competed in gymnastics at the junior Olympics, and was on the diving team at Texas Tech. She had a heart for service, especially when it involved children or the elderly. She enjoyed being a daughter, sister, aunt, but her greatest roles were as a wife and mother.
Tamera was the rock of her family. She maintained the home and was the consummate comforter and supporter for David, Allee, and Noah. She loved and supported her children in all endeavors. She never missed any school or athletic event.
Allee and Noah knew their mom loved, supported, and challenged them in everything they did. She will be deeply missed by her family, as well as the community.
The most defining aspect of Tamera’s life was her strong Christian faith. She came to know her Savior at an early age, and her relationship with Him only grew deeper as she faced this difficult period in her life. She continued to trust God and shared her faith with others until the end of her life. She accepted her diagnosis not as an obstacle, but as a means to share her faith with others.
