LLANO – For the second week in a row Liberty Hill played a complete football game and did not overlook another one-win team in Llano.

And all the defense did was shut out the Yellow Jackets while not allowing a single first down all night long. With the Panther offense clicking, Liberty Hill won handily 38-0 to improve to 3-0 in District 25-3A.

From the first series of the game, the Panther defense did not let sophomore quarterback Layton Rabb, making his third start, get comfortable in the Llano offense

The defense forced four punts, a fumble and intercepted a pass all in the first half of play.

Scoring for Liberty Hill began after an impressive opening drive converting three first downs capped by a Bo Simpson five-yard touchdown run where he bowled over defenders to get the score.

Simpson finished the first half with 76 yards rushing, including one TD.

Liberty Hill’s second scoring drive was highlighted by a Jonathan Johnston 24-yard run. On third-and-three, he took the handoff and spun, turned and fought his way down to the 12 of Llano.

Three plays later, sophomore Cory Ferrell scored from two yards out to give Liberty Hill a 14-0 advantage with 11:56 to play in the second quarter.

There was another Johnny Johnston sighting nearly five minutes later.

Following a Brice Bishop forced fumble and recovery, Johnston’s number was called and on third-and-nine ran around the right side of the line, broke what seemed to be at least seven tackles, leapt over defenders and stumbled into the end zone for a highlight run to make the score 21-0 with 6:42 left in the first half.

The defense was not done assisting the offense.

When Llano got the ball back with 1:15 left in the first half, Justin Webb got his hands on a Rabb pass, tipped it to himself and kept his feet in bounds for an athletic interception that set the Panthers up at the Llano 21-yard line.

From there, Ferrell converted a first down run to the 10-yard line. Two plays later, quarterback Kyle Hester snuck it in from the one to give the Panthers a 28-0 lead at the half.

The Panthers added a Jadon Boatright field goal and Cody Turner turned out a 50-yard touchdown run as he simply out-sprinted Llano defenders to the end zone for Liberty Hill’s final score of the night.

The Panthers’ biggest challenge on the district schedule will be next week when they travel to Lampasas, Oct. 28 at 7:30 p.m., to take on the Badgers for control of District 25-3A.
