The Panther powerlifters had their first official meet of the season Jan. 24 as they competed in the Burnet Invitational at Burnet High School. The boys placed third, overall, as a team, and the girls placed fourth.

For the boys, Payton Melchor, Christian Keizer, and Justin Montgomery each finished first, and Lakota Lawrence finished second in their respective weight classes. Montgomery finished second out of all competitors at the meet with his weight total, finishing just 15 pounds behind Burnet’s Roger Craig. Montgomery’s 605-pound squat was the heaviest of the entire group.

For the girls, Katy Gibson was the only one to take first in her weight class, while Perla Hernandez took second and Leanna Limon and Mia Montes took third in their weight class. Taylor Sims had the best overall finish of the Panther girls, lifting the 17th-best weight total of all competitors.

Both teams will compete Feb. 14 in the Lago Vista Invitational at Lago Vista High School for their next competition.
