Liberty Hill had two powerlifters medal at the state powerlifting meet in Abilene on April 2, a first-ever accomplishment for the Panthers.

Dakota Corbut took second place, while Van Shamblin finished in fourth place, putting Liberty Hill in 13th place out of 90 teams at the meet.

“To finish in the top 5 in both classes shows the hard work and dedication that these two have,” said head coach Robert Draper.

“Like I told Van on the way home, ‘you are now the fourth strongest person in the entire state in your division, that’s about 290 lifters!’ There are about 260 lifters in Dakota’s class.”

Corbut recorded a total of 1,625 pounds. He posted a 605-pound squat, a 395-pound bench, and a 625-pound deadlift, all for personal bests.

Shamblin posted a 1,430 total. He squatted a personal best of 625-pounds, and recorded a 315-pound bench and a 490-pound deadlift.

This caps the powerlifting season for Liberty Hill, which also sent its first female powerlifter to the girls state meet last month.
