Janice Maynard & The Country Stardust Band to play Trail of Lights Cowboy Christmas Dance Dec.6
Liberty Hill will kick off the Christmas Festival weekend with the Trail of Lights Cowboy Christmas Dance at 7 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 6, at Lions Foundation Park. The family-friendly event is open to the public at no charge.
Janice Maynard, a traditional country singer straight from the heart of Texas has been likened to some of the greatest classic country singers of all times yet with a distinct voice that’s all her own. You may have seen her on the “Shotgun Red Show” or “Tru Country”, and she is also an AWA Female Vocalist of the Year Nominee. Born into a musical family, then later marrying into one, the Maynard family that is so well known around this part of Texas for their musical talents, has made singing country music a way of life. Mrs. Maynard is a longtime resident of Liberty Hill, and she and her husband, Ricky Maynard, own Liberty Septic and Excavating.
In 2010, she teamed up with Grammy award winner Bobby Flores, traveling all over Texas performing with him and writing songs. This year, she released a new album on Yellow Rose Records that was nominated in several categories at the AWA Awards, one of them being Album of The Year.
Mrs. Maynard began touring with her own band, Country Stardust, in February 2012. Her husband Ricky is also part of the band, playing the acoustic guitar and singing. Two of their children are also in the band with them. Nineteen-year-old daughter Melanie holds her own very well on background vocals as well as being featured throughout the show. And their 17-year-old son whom they call “Bud”, is the lead guitar player for the group and has already been fortunate enough at such a young age to play on stage with some of the greatest musicians out there.
There are also two other Maynards in the band. Steve Maynard on piano and Jerry Maynard on bass, both being Ricky’s brothers (Janice’s brothers-in-law). You might have seen them at the San Antonio Rose Live Classic Country Music Show at the Aztec Theater on the Riverwalk. They were both the lead male singers there.
On fiddle, is pro-musician Rodney Smith, who also played for SARL and played at several shows in Branson, MO, for years. Dave Biller is the steel player for the group and also one of the well-known top professional musicians in Texas. Rick Connell, also a veteran musician who has spent many years on the road playing for several very well-known artists, is also in the band. All together, they are a nine-piece group.
Fans of traditional country music and country Christmas songs won’t want to miss the first Liberty Hill Trail of Lights Christmas Dance.
Concessions will be available, but no alcoholic beverages will be sold or permitted in the park.
“Bring a blanket, a lawn chair, the kiddos and plan to have a great time celebrating the start of the holiday season with the entire Liberty Hill community,” said Mrs. Maynard.
She said organizers of the event teamed with Christmas Festival volunteers to plan a special event marking the lighting of the Trail of Lights. An old-fashioned family street dance came to mind as being something everyone would enjoy while bringing attention to the Trail of Lights.
The walking trail at Lions Foundation Park will light up with festive holiday displays built by local businesses and organizations.
“This will be a great outing for the whole family, and something we hope will become a holiday tradition in Liberty Hill,” said Mrs. Maynard.
Those who attend the event are asked to bring a toy donation for Williamson County Brown Santa, and a non-perishable food item for Operation Liberty Hill.
The Trail of Lights Cowboy Christmas Dance is hosted by The Liberty Hill Independent. Additional sponsors include Santa Rita Ranch, HK Computers, HS Century 21-Kelli Tudyk, Parker’s Corner Market, Liberty Buildings, Williamson County Cowboy Church and San Gabriel Realty.
Also sponsoring the event are Rancho Sienna, R Bank, Subway, Liberty Hill Towing, Liberty Septic & Excavating, Two Brand It, Auto Loan Refi, Simply Home, First Texas Bank and Winkley’s.
A special holiday event t-shirt will be available for sale at the Trail of Lights.
