Help a Liberty Hill family by donating to Brown Santa

The Liberty Hill Independent encourages the community to donate to Williamson County Brown Santa this holiday season.

The newspaper office, which is a local drop-off location, will accept toy donations until Dec. 10. The donation barrel is located inside the newspaper office at 14251 W. SH 29, Suite B, in Liberty Hill.

Brown Santa gives toys to children ages 0-14. Toys, books, puzzles, stuffed animals and board games are needed for every age group. Donations should be new and unwrapped.

Every year, the Brown Santa charity of the Williamson County Sheriff’s Office provides gifts for hundreds of economically disadvantaged families during the holidays. In 2010, Brown Santa raised enough money to provide gifts for 2,100 children from 800 families living in the unincorporated areas of Williamson County including the Liberty Hill area.

Brown Santa provides assistance to families living outside the geographical city limits of any town or city within Williamson County that does not provide a similar program. Monetary donations to Brown Santa are used to purchase toys, books and other items needed to make the holiday brighter for children in families living at or below the U.S. poverty level guidelines.

Contributing to the program are hundreds of Liberty Hill elementary age students who annually donate teddy bears and money to Brown Santa — effectively contributing gifts to economically disadvantaged children who live in the Liberty Hill school district.

Brown Santa also offers an Adopt-A-Family program. Each family chosen for adoption is carefully selected based on financial need. Shopping lists are created with additional information on each child including age, gender, sizes and gift preference.

The Adopt-A-Family Christmas Program provides families, companies, churches or other groups with the opportunity to give personally to a specific family. Adopting a family requires a commitment to give each child in the family a minimum of two toys and one stuffed animal. Brown Santa serves children from infants all the way through seniors in high school. However, family gifts can go beyond toys to clothing and food. Contributors may choose to meet the adopted family or remain anonymous. The deadline to sign up for this program is Friday, Dec. 7.

Applications for the Brown Santa program will be accepted in person from 2-4 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 2, at the Liberty Hill Fire Station, 301 Loop 332.

Monetary donations can be mailed to Brown Santa c/o the Williamson County Sheriff’s Office, 508 Rock Street, Georgetown, TX 78626.
