Freshmen will face LH alum at Brenham

There’s going to be a familiar face on the opposing sideline when the Liberty Hill freshman team hosts Brenham on Thursday evening at Panther Stadium.
Calvin King, a former Liberty Hill running back and defensive back, is one of the coaches of the freshman football team in Brenham. King was an all-district performer for the Panthers and said he is excited about returning to Panther Stadium.
“I have the utmost respect for Coach Vance and his program, and I have been looking forward to this game ever since I learned we were playing each other,” King said in an interview by email Wednesday morning.
At Liberty Hill, King was a versatile player on the football field. In addition to his contributions on offense and defense, he was also a dangerous kick returner who was always a threat to score.
In addition to coaching freshman football, King is also an assistant varsity basketball coach at Brenham High School, where he works under his father, Bruce King, who was the former head coach at Liberty Hill. While at Liberty Hill the elder King reached the playoffs in 11 of 13 seasons and averaged 23 wins a season.
“It’ll be good to see those guys,” said Liberty Hill Head Coach Jerry Vance. “Calvin was a good player for us and Bruce was a great person to work with.”
