BERTRAM — Once again it’s time for the Oatmeal Festival Cook-Off so put on your chef’s hat, take the oatmeal out of your cupboard, sprinkle in a little imagination and enter Bertram’s Oatmeal Festival Cook-Off to be held Saturday, Sept. 1, 2012, sponsored by 3-Minute Brand Oats.
The Cook-Off will be held at the Lewis Building located in downtown Bertram at 107 Grange Street, on the corner of Grange and Vaughan Streets. To reach that location turn north on N. Grange Street (FM 243) at the Hwy. 29 traffic light. Cook-Off entries are to be dropped off at the Grange Street entrance.
Each category will have two divisions: junior (age 18 and under) and adult (age 18 and over). Contestants can enter their Cook-Off dishes in seven categories: breads, cakes, pies, cookies, bars, snack mix and low fat/low cholesterol. All are encouraged to enter their favorite oatmeal recipes in several of these categories.
Entries will be accepted on Sept. 1 from 9:03 a.m. to 11:33 a.m. and judging will begin at 12:33 p.m. All contestants must have a social security number in order to register their entries. Prizes will be presented at 3:03 p.m. at the Lewis Building with the festival’s mascot, Oatie, awarding the prizes.
Cash prizes will be given to the winners of each category in both divisions. Also receiving money will be the grand champion in each division and the best Cook-Off recipe. All cash awards are donated by the Ralston Corporation.
