EDC elects new VP

The Liberty Hill Economic Development Corporation (EDC) took steps at its Aug. 22 meeting to fill the void left with the resignation of John Clark.
Clark resigned from the board due to a move, which meant the EDC needed a new Vice President and new board member.
The unanimous agreement was for Johnny Johnston as the new Vice President, and he, President Bill Chapman and Board Member Jamie Etzkorn were named to a nominating committee to consider replacements for Clark.
The EDC approved its proposed budget for the upcoming fiscal year with some notable changes to the original budget plan presented to the board.
The vote was to reduce its contribution to city Capital Improvement Projects by $100,000 in its budget. Those cuts include taking the contribution to the city’s comprehensive plan, transportation and parking line items from $50,000 to $25,000 each, and cutting the $50,000 drainage line item completely.
“The consensus thinking at this point and time is that we keep taking funds out above our income that eventually there will be no savings and we will have no reserves,” Chapman said.
The council must approve the EDC budget, but did not discuss the change from the proposed budget at Monday’s council meeting.
Nancy Marasco, representing the Liberty Hill Development Foundation’s Sculpture Festival returned to the board with specific sponsorship opportunities for the event, and the board chose to fund two billboards up to a maximum cost of $5,000 to promote it.
