Duckworth Insurance Agency opened in Liberty Hill last October to offer area residents a more personalized approach to their insurance needs. The company offers home, auto, renters, boat and watercraft, personal umbrella, and builders risk insurance.

“We’re trying to make insurance personal,” said owner Daniel Duckworth. “Insurance has become very impersonal. It’s seen as a commodity.”

At his agency, Duckworth aims to give each person one-on-one attention.

“Because no two people are alike,” he said.

Duckworth spent summers working for his father who was an insurance agent when he was younger. He did not envision a future in insurance himself until fairly recently. He attended Liberty University in Virginia before moving to central Texas in 2003. He spent a combined 13 years working as an account executive, focusing on sales, at Dell and Google.

“A couple of years ago, I decided I wanted my own insurance agency,” Duckworth said. “We bought this building almost a year ago. We got everything refinished and we’ve been open since October.”

Duckworth has always dreamed of owning his own business and after talking with his father he realized his future was in insurance.

“Liberty Hill is a great market. My wife and I loved the schools,” he explained. “It all came together at the right time.”

He said the community was particularly appealing because of its rapid growth. He identified a need in the area for an insurance agency. Duckworth took demographics into account, and he said, typically a community where people own one home and two cars on average, is an ideal market for insurance companies.

He said while most agencies are passed on through each generation of a family or bought from an existing agency, his stands out. Duckworth Insurance Agency is independent.

“I started my own from scratch,” Duckworth shared. “We don’t have anything laying out there. It’s a lot, overall, cleaner approach.”

While Duckworth mostly runs the business on his own, he does rely on services from a remote employee, Debbie Swafford, and his wife, Holly Duckworth. Swafford helps take calls when Duckworth is unavailable and completes quotes. Mrs. Duckworth helps fill in at the office when he is out on calls.

Duckworth is a member of the Independent Insurance Agents of Texas (IIAT) and the National Small Business Association.

He and his family regularly volunteer at RockPointe Church. They moved from Leander to Liberty Hill in May 2015.

“The biggest thing were the schools,” Duckworth said. “The community is smaller, which is nice.”

The Duckworths have two boys: Will, 9, and Blake, 6, who attend Bill Burden Elementary and Liberty Hill Elementary, respectively.

He said what drew him to start his agency in Liberty Hill was the cost and ease of doing business.

“The best example is the sign code,” he said. “The Liberty Hill sign code is thorough and very easy to understand. The people in City Hall are easy to deal with and accessible.”

He encourages people to come in with their insurance-related questions.

“It’ll give us the opportunity to identify any gaps in their coverage,” Duckworth said.

The agency is located at 13002 W. State Hwy. 29. For more information, visit
