Doyle Lee Hopkins, age 84, resident of Liberty Hill, was born in Austin on September 28, 1932 to James J. Hopkins and Delia R. Lamar and passed away on April 30, 2017 in Round Rock.
He grew up in Austin and attended Stephen F. Austin High School. Doyle joined the U.S. Navy at the age of 17. He attended boot camp at Great Lakes Naval Training Center north of Chicago, Illinois. He served on the USS Markab (ad-21) and other vessels as a machinist mate and was honorably discharged on March 9, 1955 in San Diego, California. After leaving the Navy, he attended an apprentice program in Houston for HVAC. Doyle then worked in the residential and commercial air conditioning industry both domestically and internationally until his retirement.
Doyle married Martha Louise Dykes Wallace on July 19, 1958 and fathered his only child Diane Mechelle Hopkins on September 13, 1969. He was a member of Union Hall Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Martha Louise Dykes Wallace Hopkins; daughter, Dianne Mechelle Hopkins Castleberry; son, Lamar N. Wallace; granddaughter, Amber Rose Castleberry; sister, Genia Ann Hopkins Blohm; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents James and Delia Hopkins, brothers James, William, Delmer and Joe Hopkins and sister Dorothy Cook and Joyce Schneider.
The family will receive guests for a time of visitation from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. on Friday, May 5, 2017, at Cook-Walden Davis Funeral Home in Georgetown.
Funeral services will be held 10:00 A.M. on Saturday, May 6, 2017 in the chapel of the Cook-Walden Davis Funeral Home. Burial will follow at 2:30 P.M. at Williams-Buck Cemetery in Liberty Hill.
