Dorothy (Dottie) Alley Klein, daughter of the late Claude Mott Alley and Margaret Johnston Alley of Morganton, North Carolina, passed away peacefully following a short illness on the morning of April 27, 2017, in the presence of family, at the Anderson Oaks Assisted Living facility in Conway, South Carolina.
Dottie, as she was known to all her many friends, was born in April, 1927, in the small town of Lenoir, NC and was the eldest of six siblings. Following high school graduation, Dottie moved to Washington, D.C. where she met her future husband, Oscar B. (Ozzie) Klein (deceased). They were married there in 1946 and spent the next twenty years traveling the globe and raising a family. Ozzie’s work took them to such exotic places such as Japan, Turkey, Germany, Mexico and Viet Nam.
Following Mr. Klein’s retirement from the U.S. State Department in 1976, Dot and Ozzie purchased land in the Hill County of central Texas where they built a home and lived for the next forty years. Ozzie kept himself busy with various aspects of helping run their small community while Dottie was very involved with the local garden and cooking clubs. Because of her travels, many of Dottie’s popular recipes had an international flair and found their way into numerous published cook books.
Mrs. Klein is survived by her sister Lois, brother Perry Keith Alley, son Dean Klein, and daughter Diane M. Klein. She also leaves behind six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Dottie’s life will be celebrated with a memorial service in Texas at a place and time to be determined.
