Courage camps offer children choices to be active this summer

IMG_3814-smallLiberty Hill schools will dismiss for summer on June 5 and parents looking for opportunities to keep their children active and healthy might consider camps at Courage Cheer and Dance.

The premier cheerleading and dance company, which moved into a new gym facility on Jonathan Drive some months ago, offers a variety of camps for every interest. Whether it is tumbling, cheer technique, dance or just days of fun activities, Courage Cheer offers supervised, structured learning in a safe and welcoming environment.

Gym owner Justin Johnson said the camps will focus on skill development and trained staff members will work with students to improve while having fun.

In April, Johnson competed at the International All-Star Federation World Championship of Cheerleading where his team placed 18th of 47 teams in the Co-Ed Level 5 International Division.

Johnson and his wife, Lauren, own Courage Cheer and Dance and are recruiting athletes for an all-girl Level 5 team to compete at the 2015 Cheerleading Worlds.

Participating in summer camps can help cheer and dance athletes improve their skills and learn new techniques.

Parents may consider a 30-day unlimited camp pass that allows access to all 17 camps for one price that saves money over purchasing each camp individually. Camp registration prices vary for gym members and non-members.

In the Tumble Camp, athletes will work on both front and back tumbling as well as standing and running tumbling. The camp is for all ages and skill levels. Tumble Camp is Mondays and Tuesdays on the following dates:  June 9-10, June 16-17, June 23-24, June 30-July 1, July 7-8, July 28-29, August 11-12 and August 18-19.

Athletes in Cheer Camp will work on cheer motion technique, jumps, stunts and dance. At the end of the camp there will be a performance for parents of skills learned. Camps are Wednesdays and Thursdays on the following dates: June 18-19 and July 2-3.

Dance Camp is for athletes looking to learn dance technique, leaps, turns as well as learning two different styles of dance. The Dance Camp will be held in conjuction with the cheer camps, but on the dance floor and will be performing for the parent showcase on the last day of camp. Dance Camp will be Wednesdays and Thursdays on the following dates: June 11-12, June 25-26 and July 30-31.

Fun Camp is for students working on tumbling, games, conditioning and other “Fun” activities. All ages and skill levels are welcome. Fun Camp is on Fridays on the following dates: June 6 and 13, August 15 and 22.

Courage Cheer and Dance will host a Lock In July 4-5.
