Child health and wellness fair is Oct. 5

Local health care professionals will participate in a Healthy Kids Back to School Bash on Oct. 5 at Liberty Hill Pediatric Dentistry.

The health and wellness fair, which is free and open to the public, will feature booths from local health professionals as well as community organizations that offer activities or services for children.

Dr. Pooneh “P.J.” Yazdi, a nutritionist who is organizing the event, said she was looking for a way to bring the community together to help children and their families.

“We want families to know what is available in Liberty Hill when it comes to raising healthy children,” she said. “The educational aspect of the event is important, and professionals will be here to answer health and safety questions. We want this to be an interactive event between vendors and families.”

While vendors are not paying to participate in the fair, Dr. Yazdi said any monies contributed will go to the Liberty Hill Public Library.

The health fair, which is sponsored by Liberty Hill Pediatric Dentistry and co-sponsored by John Walker of Farmers Insurance Georgetown and The Liberty Hill Independent, will be held in the parking lot of the dentist office at 9415 W. State Highway 29, Georgetown — just east of Seward Junction.

Exhibitors will provide door prizes that will be entered into a raffle. Vendors will also provide educational materials, free samples, and will offer activities for children. Guests will be given a BINGO card that will be completed with stamps obtained from vendors, and the cards will be used as entries to win raffled prizes.

Dr. Yazdi said she would like the health and wellness fair to become an annual event for Liberty Hill.

“Our community is really growing and so many people don’t know all of the things that available for children in Liberty Hill,” she said. “We want families to know that there are resources available locally and they don’t have to leave town to find them.”

Among the local businesses expected to participate are those offering cheerleading and dance instruction, karate, recreational sports, behavioral health and nutrition, dental services, bicycle safety and pet safety.
