Sculpture Dedication Ceremony @ Lions Foundation Park, Liberty Hill
1:00 pm – 2:00 pm

The Liberty Hill Development Foundation will dedicate a new addition to the International Sculpture Park during a ceremony at 1 p.m. April 27 at Lions Foundation Park.

The community is invited to attend the event, recognizing the contribution of local sculptor John Van Camp.

The Sculpture Park, which is currently on the grounds of Liberty Hill Junior High School, will be moved during the coming months to its new location in Foundation Park.

“Lions Foundation Park seeks to bring Liberty Hill residents together again, as they did in 1976, to support this new beginning for the Sculpture Garden and recognize the cutural significance of the art that was created here,” said Gary Jackson of the Development Foundation Board. “The dedication of Mr. Van Camp’s scupture provides an opportunity to show our community that if we come together and get behind something that we can put Liberty Hill on the map as a cultural art community.”

Scheduled to speak at the ceremony later this month is Mike Fowler, son of the late Mel Fowler of Liberty Hill. Mel Fowler organized the International Sculptors Symposium in 1976, which brought internationally reknowned sculptors to Liberty Hill to create pieces of art. The sculptures and the Sculpture Garden are listed in the Smithsonian American Art Museums Catalog.

Additional speakers include Mary Morris, president of the Texas Sculptors Society, and Liberty Hill ISD Superintendent Rob Hart.

Small sculptures and artwork from the 1976 Symposium will be displayed as well as tours, movies and slideshows of the 1976 event and the 1987 dedication of the Sculpture Garden when the artwork was moved to the school campus.
