James Burns family benefit @ VFW Post, Downtown Liberty Hill
1:00 pm – 7:00 pm

Family and friends of James Burns are hosting a benefit for him from 1-7 p.m. Oct. 11 at the VFW Post downtown. Burns was diagnosed with cancer in November 2013. After chemotherapy, he was informed earlier this month that nothing more could be done. The benefit will feature live music, barbecue plates for $12, drinks for $1, a raffle and silent auction. All proceeds go to the Burns family. Burns was born July 21, 1970 in Fort Wayne, Indiana. He graduated from Leander High School in 1989. That year, he started working for Young & Pratt and joined the Sheet Metal Workers Union. He recently received his 25 year pin. He met Shannon Coker in 1988 and they have been together 24 years. In 2005, they moved to Liberty Hill and were finally married on Sept. 12 in Cedar Park. They have a 16-year-old daughter, Brianna Burns, who has attended Liberty Hill schools for 10 years. Burns has been a wonderful husband and father supporting his family mentally and financially, and now the family is asking for help from the community during this difficult time. Cash donations are welcome and may be sent by mail to James and Shannon Burns, 355 CR 288, Liberty Hill, TX 78642 For more information on the benefit or to find out how you can help, contact Tracy Coker at (210) 606-5116 or send email to or contact Shannon Coker at (512) 917-3585 or
