Celebrate Dr. Seuss 

Celebrate Dr. Seuss’ birthday from  1-3 p.m. Saturday, March 8, at the Liberty Hill Public Library, 335 Loop 332.

It’s far more than just a birthday party for the celebrated, bigger than life author. It’s a festive canine carnival along with cool games, craft-making, a photo booth for silly photo opportunities, a colorful dog costume contest and plenty of Dr. Seuss story readings. The event is free and open to kids of all ages.

Nine area animal rescues and sanctuaries including Wee Rescue, Small Chance Rescue, Texas Humane Heroes, Westie Rescue Austin and the Williamson County Regional Animal Shelter will be present.

Among the animals participating are three dogs from the West explosion being sheltered at the Stray Acres Sanctuary and Animal Rescue in Bertram.

The event is part of a national celebration, Reading Across America, held in honor of Dr. Seuss whose birthday was March 2. He would have turned 110.

BERTRAM — First Baptist Church of Bertram will host a yard and bake sale from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, March 8, at the church, 325 S. Gabriel in Bertram.

Proceeds from the sale benefit a youth mission trip to Spain in June.

Trek Back in Time during Spring Break

Grace Alive Church is hosting “Trek Back in Time,” a wilderness escape Vacation Bible School from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. March 10-14.

The Spring Break event will explore what life was like for the ancient Israelites. Children will craft projects, play games and try new foods.

Liberty Hill Garden Club meets March 11

The Liberty Hill Garden Club will meet Tuesday, March 11, at the VFW, 102 E. Myrtle Street, Liberty Hill. The meeting will begin with coffee at 9:15 a.m. The speaker will be Hank Belopavlovich, who will speak about Container Gardening.

Belopavlovich is  a Williamson County Master Gardener, a Certified Square Foot Garden Teacher, and assists in the Junior Master Gardener Program.  He is also a member of the Georgetown Garden Club.

The meeting will begin at 9:30 a.m. with the speaker at 11 a.m. The public is cordially invited to attend.

Members are asked to also bring non-perishable food items for donation to Operation Liberty Hill food pantry.

VFW Pancake Supper

The Liberty Hill VFW will host its monthly Pancake Supper from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, March 18.

The all-you-can-eat supper features pancakes, sausage, coffee and juice for $5 per person or $15 maximum for families.

The Pancake Supper, a monthly fundraiser for the VFW, is held on the third Tuesday evening of each month.

This month’s co-host is Liberty Hill 4H.

Liberty Hill’s Got Talent benefits Project Graduation

The Fifth Annual Liberty Hill’s Got Talent show will be held at 7 p.m. Saturday, March 29, at the new Liberty Hill High School Auditorium.

With more variety than ever (solo singers, dance routines, a gymnast, and singer/songwriters), the show is sure to please the entire family. This year, the event also features a silent auction that boasts over $8,000 in prizes to be won!

The handpicked judges are prominent entertainers whose vast experience from music to television is sure to make for an exciting competition.

Proceeds from the show go to LHHS Project Graduation 2014. Project Graduation is a private organization operated by parent and community volunteers. Its sole purpose is to provide an alcohol and drug-free, parent-monitored event for graduating seniors to celebrate their accomplishments in a safe and fun environment following the graduation ceremony from Liberty Hill High School.

Tickets are $10 each and can be purchased in advance at Tina’s Cottage, Simply Home, or from Ms. Knapik at the high school in room 203.  Also in the foyer of the high school cafeteria the week of March 24-28 during the lunches. Friends of the Mason Endres family are hosting a fundraising event at 7 p.m. April 18 at Liberty Hill High School Auditorium. Proceeds from “An Evening of Wow – Magic Show and Silent Auction” will go to defray some medical expenses for Mason, who was seriously injured in a crash during SXSW. More information about ticket sales is forthcoming.

Mission Liberty Hill Lutheran Church Invites Community to Annual Easter Egg Hunt


Mission Liberty Hill Lutheran Church, 15725 W. Highway 29 Ste. 7, gladly invites the Liberty Hill community to the annual Community Easter Egg Hunt on Saturday, April 19 at Lion’s Foundation Park beginning at 10:00 AM. In addition to the Easter egg hunt, there will be other fun activities for children including bounce houses, a petting zoo, and pictures with the Easter Bunny. There will also be a food drive to benefit Operation Liberty Hill. Non-perishable food items will be collected and if 1000 lbs. of food is gathered Pastor Paul Frerichs, pastor of Mission Liberty Hill, has agreed to shave his head.

Thrill of the Hill 5K Run/Walk @ Durham Park Subdivision, Liberty Hill
8:30 pm – 9:30 pm

The Liberty Hill Lions Club is hosting the 23rd Annual Thrill of the Hill 5K Run/Walk April 19 at Durham Park Subdivision in Liberty Hill.

Race time is 8:30 a.m. and packet pickup is from 7:15-8:15 a.m. The course is certified by USATF.
