Boys take 2nd, girls finish 8th in powerlifting meet
The Panther powerlifters competed in their second meet of the season last Thursday, Jan. 19, at Lampasas High School, as the boys finished in second place as a team and the girls finished eighth.
“The boys had an outstanding team effort,” said Head Powerlifting Coach Robert Draper, “and the girls team showed some great improvement from the first meet of the season. Although they did not place as a team, the ladies made some great individual improvements.”
For the boys, Justin Montgomery and Payton Melchor both finished first in their classes. Montgomery was able to take first in the 275 class with a total of 1,375 pounds, while Melchor took first in the 123 class with a total of 730 pounds.
Andy Becker placed second in the 198 class with a total of 1,195 pounds. Ethan Thom competed in the 198 class, as well, finishing fourth overall with a total of 1,135 pounds. Sloan Hall finished second in the 181 class with a total of 1,250 pounds, followed by Landry Bolin, who finished fourth in the 181 class with a total of 1,070 pounds.
Kody Knowles finished second for the Panthers in the 220 class with a total of 1,385 pounds. Bailey Cloughly competed in the 242 class, finishing second with 1,325 pounds. Jared Tippie took third in the SHW class with 1,125 pounds.
For the girls, Elizabeth Montes and Mikayla Freimel were the only two to place. Montes took second in the 148 class with 695 pounds, and Freimel took second in the 165 class with 495 pounds.
The Panthers will compete in another meet Thursday, Jan. 26, at Burnet High School.
