Baseball drops pair of games to Taylor, Leander
By TAYLOR GRAFFT
The Liberty Hill baseball team dropped their district game to the Taylor Ducks on Tuesday in a 4-3 loss at home.
The Panthers had a 2-0 lead in the third inning before the Ducks cut the deficit to one run in the fourth.
Liberty Hill then extended their lead to 3-1 in the fifth inning. The team was three outs away from a win in the seventh inning, but couldn’t hold off Taylor’s surge to tie the game 3-3 and then the go-ahead run.
Liberty Hill tried to tie the game in the bottom half of the inning, but couldn’t do enough to drive a run home.
Liberty Hill vs Leander
The Liberty Hill Panthers lost to Leander High School in a make-up game over the weekend at home, 7-4.
Leander took an early 1-0 lead in the first inning and extended that lead to 5-0 in the second inning on two, two-out hits to left.
Leander added two more runs in the third inning off wild pitches.
Despite being down 7-0, Liberty Hill showed a lot of fight and put together a big inning of their own.
In the bottom of the sixth, Liberty Hill’s Tyler Glasgow drew a leadoff walk. Glasgow stole second base and then advanced to third after Leander’s pitcher bulked.
Tyler Nelson drove Glasgow home on an RBI single up the middle, scoring the Panthers’ first run of the afternoon.
Slater Foust drove in Nelson two batters later on a single up the middle. Ethan Shirey then drove Mason McLenna, who was a pinch-runner for Colt King, home on a groundout to the shortstop, making the score 7-3.
Foust scored on a wild pitch with the bases loaded to give the Panthers their final run of the afternoon. Liberty Hill could have scored more in that inning, but left two runners on base in scoring position.
