Ann SikesAnn Louise Cleveland Sikes was born in Brownwood, Texas, to Faith Katheryn and Ellis Mayo Cleveland in October 1943. Her father was a chaplain in the army and was moved frequently. The family, 5 girls and 2 boys, finally settled in Alpine, Texas for awhile and Ann started college at Sul Ross State in 1961. During the first year she chose a boy named Sam from Abilene and they were married in December of 1962. After completing college, they moved to Pecos for a year, where their son was born, then to Balmorhea.

They moved to Liberty Hill in 1973 where she taught first grade until 1987. She finished her 31 year teaching career in Abilene where she taught 12 years at Anson Jones Elementary. She retired from teaching in 1999.

She loved camping and traveling with her husband, especially in Australia, where they went four times in search of gemstones. The last trip was at her request following a diagnosis of Alzheimer’s in March, 2001.

She was cared for at home by her husband until her death on January 13, 2016. She was buried in the Admiral Cemetery with a family funeral.

She is survived by her husband, Sam; one son, Sam Jr.; two granddaughters, Elizabeth Dawn and Ann Louise; one brother and four sisters.
