For the third year in a row, Liberty Hill residents are invited to take a tour of some of the community’s most beautiful—and festive—homes, just in time for the holidays during the Deck the Hill Holiday Home Tour on Dec. 2.

Kim Sanders, broker from the Keller Williams Liberty Hill Group, is heading up the event. Sanders, who has been working in real estate four years, said she’s always had a passion for home tours and dreamed of putting one on in Liberty Hill.

Three years ago, Project Graduation, an organization that raises money during the school year to put on an end-of-year party for graduating high school seniors, began Deck the Hill as one of its fundraising events. However, because of the amount of work that went into the event, Project Grad members decided not to host it again. That’s when Sanders stepped in and took over. Her group is financing the event, and all proceeds from ticket sales go directly to Project Grad 2019.

This year, Deck the Hill will feature six homes in Liberty Hill. Sanders said she tried to feature a unique mix of homes in the community. Two of the homes are historic, two are new builds currently serving as model homes, and two are rural. Homeowners will be present at the homes that currently have owners, as well as host realtors who will be able to give tours of the homes and their décor.

In addition, seniors from Liberty Hill High School will be volunteering at each home to earn service hours for graduation requirements. Event attendees can visit each of the homes in any order they’d like, as the tour is self-directed.

The first home is a Drees Custom Homes model home in Clearwater Ranch at 212 Bold Sundown. Host Realtor Jim Reed said the difference with this home compared to others in Liberty Hill is that it has a very wide, open living space due to the large, one-acre lot it sits on. The home boasts four bedrooms, three-and-a-half bathrooms, a large back patio with views of the oak trees and is over 3,000 square feet. The holiday décor in the home has a “dream come true” theme with shimmering snowflakes and winter berries. Silver, white and metallics are also used to add a special touch.

“Obviously, this event supports a good cause, but it’s also a great way to see how Liberty Hill is changing,” Reed added. “I know there will be some older homes on the tour as well as some newer homes, so it’ll be a nice cross section of what’s happening in Liberty Hill.”

The second home on the tour belongs to Mayor Rick Hall and his wife and host realtor with Keller Williams, Jerri Hall. It’s located at 801 Loop 332 in downtown Liberty Hill.

“The home was built in 1921 by Dr. Ross, who was one of the founding people in Liberty Hill,” said Jerri Hall. “He was the first doctor in Liberty Hill. Another interesting fact about this home is that it’s been the home of two mayors, including the current mayor. We’ve kept it pretty much like it was. There haven’t been too many renovations. You can see the original shiplap in the kitchen and we have original wood floors.”

The third home is located at 901 Loop 332 downtown and is owned by Glen and Glenda Gavin. Host Realtor Jennifer Haines, of Keller Williams, said this home is intended for anyone and everyone who loves Christmas.

“The home is over 150 years old and is two stories,” Haines said. “Each room in the house is decorated for Christmas. We counted 11 trees inside, and each has their own theme, from Western to fantasy to Victorian. There’s also a nutcracker room in the house. It’s just a little Christmas wonderland everywhere you walk. [The tour is] a great opportunity to check out local home styles and get decorating ideas. It’s a perfect girl’s day out or afternoon date.”

The fourth home on the tour is located at 420 Rio Gabriel Cove and is owned by Tad and Tina McCan. Host Realtor Stephanie Brannon, of Keller Williams, said the home is “amazing.”

“[The McCans] are neighbors of my parents, and we’ve been there a few times,” she said. “They built the house themselves and put a lot of detail into it. They created a southern plantation style home from the ceilings to the staircase. [Tina] is an amazing decorator. There’s a Christmas tree in every room. It’s like it’s out of a magazine. The tour will be a lot of fun, and it’s a great way to meet other people in the city.”

The fifth home on the tour is located at 180 Rio Gabriel Drive and is owned by Thomas and Sueann Roesner. The host realtor is Shelley Clawson of Mallach & Company.

The sixth home on the tour is a DR Horton model home located in the Liberty Parke subdivision at 108 Continental Ave. Demetria Simonovic is the host realtor at that home.

The tour will take place Dec. 2 from 2 to 5 p.m., and then an after party will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Morningstar subdivision’s clubhouse at 101 Ridgeview Court. Realtor Donna Montgomery of Meritage Homes will be hosting the after party. Meritage Homes will be providing hors d’oeuvres, beer, wine and a coffee and hot chocolate bar.

Sanders said in addition to having various realtors host each home, she’s also invited local businesses to attend the after party to showcase their services. Businesses in attendance will include an air filter company, a roofing business, a mortgage lender and an insurance company. Those who attend the tour will receive a paper ticket to get punched at each home, which they can then turn in at the after party for a chance to win prizes. Meritage Homes has donated a Ring doorbell for a door prize as well.

The LHHS jazz band will be there performing, and Montgomery is working with Morningstar’s developer, Waterstone Development, to bring in a photo booth as well.

“This is a great way for people to get together and get to know all the growth that’s going on in the community,” Montgomery said. “It’s just a fun gathering of going home to home. People love to see how homes are decorated.”

Sanders hopes to continue to make the event bigger each year, so that in the future she can include an evening portion to show off each home’s outdoor Christmas lights as well.
