It is an exciting time for young Liberty Hill Panthers as school ends and the new focus becomes summer fun and activities. The Liberty Hill High School coaches will be hosting several athletic camps this summer for school-age children.
Liberty Hill Panthers Varsity Baseball Coach Mike Kristan will be hosting the 2014 Summer Baseball Camp. The camp will be from Monday, June 9, through Thursday, June 12, at the Liberty Hill High School Baseball Field.
The camp is designed for incoming second graders to incoming high school freshmen. Participants will be taking part in drills and activates similar to those that the high school baseball team does in the offseason.
“We will talk with the campers about the importance of family, school and sacrifice,” Coach Kristan said. “They will be doing the drills the high school students do.”
Coach Kristan said that this is in an effort to teach the younger Panthers what it takes physically and mentality to be on the baseball team in high school. By familiarizing them with the values and skills early, they will already know the program and system by the time they are in high school.
Coach Kristan also said that he is looking forward to hosting the camp in the new facilities and on the new baseball field for the first time. He said it will allow the coaches to do more drills and have room for more participants than ever before.
The cost of the camp is $85 per camper. If multiple campers from the same immediate family want to participate then it is $150 per family.
The registration fee on the first camp day is $100. Parents or guardians should make checks payable to Coach Mike Kristan-Baseball Camp. Checks and forms can be turned into Coach Kristan, the High School, or on the first day of camp.
The campers will be drilling from 9:30 a.m. to noon over the course of the four-day camp. Campers should bring baseball pants, shoes, socks, t-shirt, bat, glove, baseball cap, and a water bottle. The coaches will provide water from an athletic water jug in the dugout.
“This camp will be beneficial for a young person interested in learning Panther-style baseball,” Coach Kristan said. “Instructional Objectives to be covered are defensive and offensive phases of baseball including hitting, fielding, base running, pitching and overall defensive techniques and coverages.”
Liberty Hill Lady Panthers Varsity Softball Coach Charice Hankins will be the host of the Lady Panther Softball Camp, June 16-19 at the high school softball field.
The camp is designed for incoming third graders through incoming freshmen. The cost of the camp will be $60 per camper. That cost covers the cost of camp, a camp t-shirt, a daily snack and drink.
“Our camp is designed to get kids exposed to drills, competitive games and just running through basic softball fundamentals,” said Coach Hankins. “It gives our coaches an opportunity to see our future players and expose them to a light version of softball workouts. It is about having fun with the focus on executing the basic drills, playing tough and being on the field.”
To participate, make checks payable to Charice Hankins. Reserve space by calling Coach Hankins at (512) 970-6552 or mailing a form to Coach Hankins by June 13. The form may also be submitted on the first camp day.
Campers should bring a glove, a water bottle and sunscreen. Water will be provided in the dugout by the coaches.
“Emphasis will be placed on the individual skills of throwing, fielding, base running and hitting,” Coach Hankins said. “We will also work on basic bunts, bunt defense, competition and team drills. Players will be divided into groups of appropriate skill levels and physical ability. Teams will be developed to compete in a tournament type play at the conclusion of the camp on Thursday.”
Coach Matt Kirschner will be hosting the 2014 Lady Panther Hoop Camp from June 9-12. Camp will run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily.
According to Coach Kirschner, “(The camp) is a full-day basketball fundamentals camp that emphasizes a fast-paced, intense, circuit effect, perfectly suited for all ages, sizes, and abilities. We offer a big-time camp concept, including all amenities and benefits, plus a free basketball for each camper.
“Campers get all this for much less than other camps. Plus, we stress skill development, concentration, self-discipline, teamwork and a positive attitude,” he said. “This is not a babysitting service. Campers will compete in an upbeat, nurturing atmosphere that offers competition based on size, age and ability. This format has proven to be effective over the last 21 years, and we try to improve on it each summer.”
Cost of the camp is $115 per camper before June 1, while cost of the camp is $135 per camper after June 1. If sisters are planning to attend the camp together, $10 will be deducted off the total cost for each one registering.
The camp is designed for incoming second-graders through incoming high school freshmen, but age exceptions can be made on an individual basis. The camp will be held in the high school gym.
Campers will be provided with a multi-colored commemorative camp T-shirt, personal evaluation, certificate of participation, and will compete for over 100 awards presented in numerous categories. Campers will also receive a free, personal basketball.
Campers should come dressed in shorts, t-shirt, and appropriate footwear. Each camper can bring her own lunch or purchase pizza, snacks, and drinks at the camp. Kirschner says concession prices are moderate. A camp security bank is provided to allow withdrawals and deposits throughout the week to insure that campers will not lose their money.

Community Spirit Camp
The 2014-2015 Varsity and JV Cheerleaders are hosting the 19th Annual LHHS Spirit Camp from June 24-26 from 8 a.m. to 12 Noon daily.
The camp is open to boys and girls in grades kindergarten through six and will be held at the Liberty Hill High School Gym.
“Campers will learn proper cheer motions, jumps and dance technique,” said LHHS Cheer Coach Dee Dee Kristan. “They will be taught two to three cheers and at least one cheer dance that usually goes along with the theme for the year.”
Mrs. Kristan, who also serves as LHHS Assistant Principal, said this year’s theme is western “Boots and Bows”.
“We also have a craft each day along with fun games to reinforce the material they are learning at camp,” she said. “Campers use the material learned to put on a performance with their group the last day of camp.”
The final performance will be at 12 Noon on June 26.
Campers are divided by age and grade levels, and are instructed by cheerleaders for the 2014-2015 school year.
“The cheerleaders enjoy doing this and really have a fun time with the campers,” added Mrs. Kristan. “This is our best community fund-raiser for the cheer program. All the money earned is used on the Cheerleaders to attend their required summer camp.”
Register for Spirit Camp by June 1 for $70 and after June 1, fee increases to $75. Make checks payable to LHHS Cheer. Each camper received a camp t-shirt.
Campers are asked to wear t-shirt, shorts and bring a water bottle and sack lunch each day of the camp.
Campers will be featured with the high school cheerleaders during the Homecoming 2014 football came.
The Liberty Hill Panthers Football Coach and Athletic Director Jerry Vance will be hosting the 2014 Panther State Championship Camp July 28-30 at Liberty Hill High School Field House and Practice Fields.
The camp is designed for incoming seventh, eighth, and ninth graders. The campers will participate in several instructional drills and objectives based on the position they play on the field. For example, quarterbacks will work on stance, snap exchanges with the center, ball handling, faking, footwork, passing, play calling and leadership. Offensive lineman will work on stance, starts, and blocking technique.
“This camp will be very beneficial for a young person interested in football,” said Coach Vance. “The Liberty Hill coaches will conduct the camp and provide each student with individual attention on basic football skills and knowledge of our system. The camp will be conducted in a safe manner, with all activities closely supervised.”
Campers will also learn proper weightlifting techniques, safety, proper eating habits, diet, and the dangers of steroid and drug use.
Campers should bring shorts and a t-shirt, shoes and socks, a towel (optional), and are not permitted to wear jewelry.
Campers should report to the LHHS Practice Fields at 8 a.m. on Wednesday, July 28. Gatorade will be provided during camp.
Cost for the camp is $50 per camper and $75 per family with two or more campers. Parents or legal guardians can make checks payable to Jerry Vance- Football.
Return completed forms to the appropriate coach, by mail, to the High School, or at 8 a.m. on the first day of camp.
The Liberty Hill Lady Panthers Volleyball Coach Gretchen Peterson will be hosting the 2014 Lady Panther Volleyball Camp July 28-31 at the Liberty Hill High School Gym. The camp will be run in two sessions to accommodate the growing interest in the camp. It will also allow the camper to coach ratio to be as low as possible to insure that children get the most training possible at the camp.
Session I will be for fifth, sixth, and seventh graders from 7:30-10 a.m. Session II will be for eighth and ninth graders from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Camp participants will be learning the same drills and skills they will need for the season and in PE classes. Liberty Hill coaches and former players will run the camp. Campers will also receive a T-shirt on the last day of camp.
The cost per camper is $50 and parents or legal guardians can make checks payable to Gretchen Peterson. The completed form and the camp fee are due by July 1.
“We are very excited to have our younger Panther volleyball players in our new gyms,” said Coach Peterson. “We do have more space and more courts, which allows for more reps and more touches of the ball. We have great participation at camp, and I think the new facilities will add to the excitement for the younger campers. It’s such a beautiful gym, and for them to get to practice and learn where they aspire to play is an awesome thing. I can’t wait for camp time.”
Liberty Hill Runnin’ Panthers Coach Barry Boren will be hosting the 2014 Runnin’ Panther Hoop Camp June 16-19 at the Liberty Hill High School Gym.
Camp will start at 9 a.m. and go till 4 p.m. daily. The camp is designed for incoming second graders through incoming freshmen in high school.
According to Coach Boren campers will receive a T-shirt, personal evaluation, a certificate of participation, and will compete for over 100 awards during the camp. Campers will also receive their own basketball as well.
“Campers will compete in an upbeat, nurturing atmosphere that offers competition based on size, age, and ability. This format has proven to be effective over the last 20 plus years, and we try to improve on it each summer,” said Coach Boren. “We stress skill development, concentration, self-discipline, teamwork, and a positive attitude.”

“I have been doing the camp here for 12 years,” said Coach Boren. “Part of its beauty is the format. We have kids grouped by age, so there is the allure of getting to be with your buddies. We also have outsiders who come in from neighboring communities. Last year we had to do a half-day camp because of facility constraints, so we are looking forward to getting back to our full-day curriculum and also breaking in our new facilities.”
The Liberty Hill Girls Soccer Coach Kelsey Quinn will be hosting the 2014 Liberty Hill High School Soccer Camp. The camp will start on June 30 and run through July 2.
The camp is designed for incoming fifth graders through incoming freshmen in high school and will be for both boys and girls.
Camp will be run each day from 8-10:30 a.m. at the Liberty Hill High School Panther Stadium. Campers should wear shorts and a T-shirt and bring a soccer ball and water bottle. Campers should also wear shin guards and soccer cleats.
Campers will need to register by June 18 to receive a camp T-shirt. Cost of the camp is $45 and parents or legal guardians can pay cash or make checks payable to Kelsey Quinn by mail or payment can be dropped off at the High School by June 6.
“We want to get the community excited about soccer,” said Coach Quinn. “It also lets the young kids see what it will be like when they get to the high school and want to be a Panther soccer player. We will be working on a lot of basic skills at camp. We are not sure yet of how many to expect, since this is our first year doing a soccer camp. I am sure we will have kids with different skills and experience at the camp so we will have to evaluate once the camp starts.”
