Jason Roman opened his newest retail franchise in Liberty Hill only three weeks ago, and he couldn’t be happier with the response he has received in his new hometown. A native of East Texas, Roman owns and operates the USA Flooring Outlet franchise he started 13 years ago.

“We had kind of a very soft opening May 1, and I plan to have a grand opening June 2,” Roman said.

He and wife, Vanessa, married last year and bought a home in Liberty Hill with the intent of opening additional stores in Central Texas.

“I had five flooring stores in East Texas and created USA Flooring Outlet in 2001. I took some time off from the retail side of it for a few years, which led me back to Austin about four years ago. When Vanessa and I married Dec. 22, we bought a home in Liberty Hill and wanted to really be a part of the community,” Roman said.

Roman’s hometown is Whitehouse, in the Tyler metropolitan area. This is where his career began 21 years ago when he accepted a job as a manager at a flooring center. After only three months, he was promoted to general manager of operations, and Roman said he had no doubt this would be his chosen career. In his earlier years, Roman served three years of active duty in the U.S. Army and five years as a reservist.

Feeling the need to be his own boss, Roman opened his first retail center in Whitehouse 13 years ago, then a second location in Tyler, and he opened three more stores afterward before taking a hiatus from the business in 2010.

“We’re known as the largest flooring retailer in East Texas, and I do plan to open some more stores later in Austin, Kyle and possibly San Antonio. Right now, I just love Liberty Hill because it’s more of a smaller town that’s growing and mixed with a little bit of the Hill Country,” Roman said.

USA Flooring Outlet includes a 2,000-square-foot showroom and a warehouse facility, but according to Roman, not a lot of inventory sits in storage, as he is so well known by his suppliers, his orders are shipped quickly from the manufacturers.

“We’ve established some fantastic relationships over the years and look forward to growing in this community,” he said. “There is no job that is too large or too small, and we will travel just about anywhere to help our customers. We provide free estimates, but we prefer our customers come to the showroom first so we can look at what works best for their needs. I always tell them, ‘It’s your house, not mine,’ and I’m going to give them all the good, the bad and the ugly about what works and what doesn’t so they can make the best decision.”

According to Roman, some of the store’s best-selling items are in the area of hardwood flooring. USA Flooring also provides a full line of carpeting, laminate, ceramic tiles, cabinets, countertops and even backsplashes for new custom builds to those who want to add a touch of flair to a home renovation.

“Basically, we offer anything you would ever need as far as floor covering, and nobody can beat our price in this area, including in Austin,” Roman said. “I have some of the best installation services to offer, and every new customer has written a testimonial letter about how pleased they are with our work.”

In addition to Roman, he has three employees. Nick Barrios specializes in field work such as measuring and pricing, Michele Hohmann assists with showroom sales, and Roman’s son, Matt Roman, combines sales and field work while learning the family business. Roman hopes his son will open additional franchise locations in other states in the future.

As far as offering the best possible service, Roman said he’s happy to stick to the basics of floor covering and turnkey installations. It’s a business he knows from top to bottom, and his primary goal is to provide quality customer service.

“I think it’s only fair to focus on providing flooring services to our customers and warranty not only our products, but also our labor,” Roman said. “With our knowledge, it allows us to give our customers the professionalism and installation services they deserve.”
