The Junior Varsity volleyball team topped Kerrville Tivy in an exciting three-game set Tuesday and won 2-1.

The Lady Panthers won the first set 25-20 due to strong hitting and attacking by the outside hitters. Two back-to-back kills by Allee Nix put Liberty Hill ahead 11-8. Kerrville Tivy did well to battle back in the set and tied it up 17-17, however the Lady Panthers went on a 5-1 run to take a 22-18 lead. Katelyn Lyle’s ace and serving really helped fuel the Lady Panthers’ run.

A set-winning ace by London Smith gave Liberty Hill the one game advantage and christened the new Liberty Hill Gym with a victory.

In the second set, Liberty Hill fell 21-25 to Kerrville Tivy, who jumped out to a 7-8 lead over the Lady Panthers. A block by Tori Graves made it 8-9 and helped the Panthers battle back, but they could never take the lead.

In the third set, Liberty Hill came out on top 25-22 in a close game. With Liberty Hill down early on in the set 3-7, Andi Graves’ dump shot helped start the Lady Panthers comeback run. A few service errors by Kerrville Tivy allowed Liberty Hill to battle back, making it 13-16. The Lady Panthers went on a miraculous 10-0 run to make it 23-16 after an ace by Allee Nix. The Panthers held on after a late push by Kerrville Tivy, but would go on to win the set and the match.

The Freshman volleyball team was also able to come out on top over Kerrville Tivy in a 2-0 victory Tuesday. It didn’t take long for the freshmen to make quick work of Kerrville Tivy and cruise to victory. In the first set the Freshman Lady Panthers defeated Tivy 25-22. In the second set the Lady Panthers came out on top 25-23 in a competitive and close game.

On August 22, the Junior Varsity and Freshman teams both cruised to victory. The JV team defeated Hyde Park 2-1 in a close match, while the Freshman team defeated Hyde Park 2-0.

The Junior Varsity team jumped out to a quick 7-2 lead in the first set, but Hyde Park battled back to tie the game 12-12. Both teams exchanged points, but the JV team was able to keep their lead throughout the set and came out with a 25-22 victory.

In the second set, Hyde Park jumped out to a 9-10 lead over Liberty Hill, but the Lady Panthers were able to tie the game 12-12. Hyde Park took the lead 16-17, but Liberty Hill pushed to tie the game again 19-19 in the set. Despite the close and competitive set, Hyde Park was able to force the Lady Panthers to make a few mental errors and came out on top 22-25 in the second set.

In the third and final set, the JV team put in a strong performance and won the set 25-18. Liberty Hill started with a 10-8 lead, before Hyde Park cut the Lady Panthers lead and went on a 4-8 run. Then Liberty Hill went on a run of their own. The Lady Panthers went on a 11-2 run and took the match in their final game at the old Liberty Hill High School Gym.

In the Freshman match against Hyde Park, the Lady Panthers jumped out to a 14-9 lead in the first set. Strong play from their outside hitters allowed them to take a 19-13 lead, before ultimately pulling away to win the set 25-17.

In the second set, Hyde Park took a 11-14 lead to start out, but Liberty Hill dug deep and forced Hyde Park to make mistakes on their serve and receive game. Liberty Hill took the lead 23-21 and never looked back as they won the second set 25-22 and won the match.

The Junior Varsity and Freshman teams will host Temple on August 30 in their next match. The Freshmen will play at 5 p.m. and the Junior Varsity will play at 6 p.m.
