Marie Wiley, lovingly known as “Me-me” to all those who loved her, passed away on Sunday, January 27, 2013. A service celebrating Me-me’s life was held Saturday, February 2, 2013, at First Baptist Church of Florence. Interment followed at Florence City Cemetery. Honoring Me-me as pallbearers were Andy Sellars, Danny Sellars, Glenn Patterson, Steven Patterson, Danny Turner, Clay McClellan, Tom Frist and Butch Wiley.
Mary Marie was born in Scottsdale, Arizona, to the late Sam Milton and Iva Robertson Patterson. At a young age her family moved to Florence, Texas. Marie was crowned Ms. Georgetown High School in 1950 and later graduated from Georgetown High School in 1950. She went on to attend and graduated from Durham Business School. Marie met the love of her life, John Robert Wiley; they were married, January 1951 at Ridgetop Baptist Church in Austin. She worked for a few years at National Life Insurance Company, until she became pregnant with their first child. Me-me was a wonderful mother, grandmother and great grandmother, she truly enjoyed her family. She was an exceptional cook and gardener; Marie’s cooking will truly be missed by her family and friends. John and Marie had their family ranch in Florence for many years, she was his best “ranch-hand”, together they cultivated a special place for their family to gather and spend time. John and Marie were longtime active members at First Baptist Church of Florence; she was noted for being in charge of the church Bereavement Committee starting in 1987. Me-me felt that her loving cooking along with the help of others could in some way help the families that were grieving.
Me-me is preceded in death by her parents, Sam and Iva Patterson; her brothers, Milton Patterson and Marvin Patterson; her sister, Mita McDonald; her daughter, Patricia Ann Wiley-Hyman on July 15, 2012; and her loving husband of over 61 years, John Robert Wiley on May 11, 2012.
Me-me leaves behind to cherish her memory and carry on her legacy, her sons, Mark Wiley and his wife Debbie of Liberty Hill and Guy Wiley and his wife JoAnne of Lakeway; her grandchildren, Wendy Wiley Pleak and her husband Luke, Jaclyn Wiley, Jace Wiley and Kiley Hyman; great grandchildren, Dyce Malone Pleak and Hailee Kayden Crow-Wiley; sisters, Madeline Sellars and her husband Milton, Mildred McClellan; and brothers, Barto Patterson and his wife Judy; son-in-law, David Hyman; daughter-in-law, Vicki Wiley Swinford; along with numerous other loving family members and friends.
