Valentin “Chivo” E. Acevedo, Jr., passed away on Tuesday, July 17, 2012, at his home in Florence, Texas, surrounded by loving family. He succumbed to his courageous battle with cancer at the age of 61. Valentin was born to Valentin Sr. and Paula (Enriquez) Acevedo on September 13, 1950, in Newport, Arkansas. In 1985, Elena M. (Herrera) Guzman and Valentin began their lives together and shared an unconditional love for twenty-seven years.Valentin devoted his skills and passion to the betterment of the community in which he worked. He provided the citizens of Georgetown a wonderful place to spend their leisure time. For over twenty-six years, Valentin worked for the City of Georgetown, in the Parks and Recreation Department. He decided to retire in December of 2011. Valentin always remained true to the idea that nothing in the world had more value than his faith, his family and his friends. His passing into eternal life will be felt by many.He is preceded in death by his father, Valentin Acevedo; two sisters: Maria and Angelita; brother, David Acevedo; and great-granddaughter, Angel Neveah.To cherish his memory, Valentin leaves behind his spouse, Elena of Florence, Tx; sons: Edward and Rene both of Ackerly, Tx; daughters: Sherrie of Big Spring, Tx and Amanda of Floresville, Tx; step-daughters: Dionicia of Jonah, Tx and Sylvia of Round Rock, Tx; mother, Paula Acevedo of Florence, Tx; brothers: Naun Acevedo and wife Vicky of Lubbock, Tx, Joe Acevedo and wife Dora of Leander, Tx, Lupe Acevedo and wife Vicky of Florence, Tx, Rudy Acevedo and wife Teresa of Grand Prairie, Tx, Alfred Acevedo and wife Lisa of Georgetown, Tx; sisters: Grace Valdez and husband Richard, Sally Rivera and husband Dulce, Mary Reyna and husband Hector all of Florence, Tx, Angie Ochoa and husband Jesse, Janie Guajardo and husband Tony both of Georgetown, Tx, Diana Ramirez and husband Rudy of Florence, Tx, Melissa Garcia and husband Arthur of Georgetown, Tx and Medy Carranco and husband J.C. of Florence, Tx; along with 14 grandchildren, 5 step-grandchildren, and 4 great grandchildren.A visitation with family and friends will be held from 6:00-8:00 p.m. on Friday, July 20th with a Recitation of the Rosary to begin at 7:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, July 21st at St. Helen Catholic Church in Georgetown.
