Over the last six days, the Liberty Hill Lady Panthers competed in tough district battles, splitting games with a 4-0 win at Salado and dropping their first district game of the season to Taylor 3-0.

Starting pitcher Kourtney Bevers earned her ninth win of the season on Thursday, April 5, as she led the Lady Panthers to a 6-0 record in district play by shutting out the Lady Eagles of Salado, giving up only two hits.

Paige Holland and Kendyl Yandrisovitz each doubled in the win, as part of the Lady Panthers’ eight hits.

Liberty Hill traveled to Salado after playing the original road game at home in a makeup game March 21.

On Tuesday, April 10, Liberty Hill suffered its first loss in district play to Taylor 3-0.

While the Lady Panthers hit the ball hard, it was seemingly always to a Taylor fielder. Liberty Hill ended the game with five hits and no runs as Taylor pitcher Selena Lopez had her A-game Tuesday night. She ended the game with five strikeouts.

Liberty Hill pitcher Bevers threw the ball well and got out of two bases loaded jams, one with no outs.

She pitched four scoreless innings and gave up just four hits in that time. However, the Lady Ducks finally broke through with two runs in the bottom of the fifth.

After a long at-bat yielded a walk and another batter reached on a throwing error, a single drove in two runs ending the 0-0 tie. Taylor added one more run in the sixth to push the lead to 3-0.

The Lady Panthers tried for a rally after Bevers drilled a leadoff double. But Lopez didn’t flinch, getting Courtney Weems to fly out and Bailey Browder and Lorrie Potts to strike out.

Liberty Hill moves to 6-1 in District 25-3A and 18-7 overall. The Lady Panthers are still the district leader and will host Llano Friday, April 13, at 6 p.m.
