The Lady Panthers went 5-2 over Spring Break after two home games and a tournament in San Marcos.

Liberty Hill (12-6) started the seven-game stretch with what Coach Charice Hankins called a “big” win over 5A Austin High School.

Behind the arm of pitcher Kourtney Bevers, the Lady Panthers shut out the Lady Maroons 7-0. Bevers struck out two, allowed only four hits and one walk in seven scoreless innings of work.

Austin High’s pitching was effective as well, until the fourth inning when the Lady Panthers batted around to score all seven of their runs.

Courtney Weems got the inning started after being hit by a pitch and taking second base on a passed ball. The bases were then loaded after a Paige Holland single and walk by Bevers. That’s when Bailey Browder singled off the cleat of the Austin High third baseman, scoring Weems on the hit.

Next, a walk with the bases loaded by earned Lorrie Potts an RBI and the Lady Panthers a 2-0 lead.

Liberty Hill then used back-to-back doubles by Payton Walker and Kendyl Yandrisovite to score four more runs. Paige Lafferty’s single then scored the Lady Panthers’ final run of the game.

Following the win over Austin, Liberty Hill played its second game of the day and defeated a tough Del Valle team 3-2. Pitcher Sam Junkin (7-4) struck out six and allowed only two runs in the win. Walker, Potts and Browder each went 2-3 from the plate.
