Panthers lose to China Spring, 13-12

CHINA SPRING – When China Spring came out in the second half and scored on its opening possession, the Liberty Hill Panthers did not flinch.
The Panthers, playing in front of an energetic, homecoming crowd, had a chance to win with 18.9 seconds left in the game after Jonathan Johnston scored a rushing touchdown from two yards out pulling the Panthers within one point (13-12) of the Cougars.
The idea to tie the game never entered the mind of Liberty Hill Head Coach Jerry Vance. In typical Vance fashion, he decided to go for the win.
On the two-point conversion attempt, senior Bo Simpson was stopped short of the goal line by the Cougar defense essentially putting an end to the furious comeback attempt by the Panthers.
The Panthers attempted an onside kick, but to no avail as the Cougars pounced on the ball. A quarterback kneel capped the China Spring victory.
China Spring (3-0) finally allowed the home crowd to breathe a sigh of relief as it held on to beat Liberty Hill (1-2) 13-12.
After the game, there was no second-guessing the decision to go for two and the win on the road.
“You know me,” said Vance following the narrow loss. “I didn’t come here to tie.”
